Affecting about 50 million people worldwide, dementia impacts every aspect of a person\u2019s life and varies by individual, changing as one progresses through different stages of the underlying disease.<\/p>

Dementia is an umbrella term for symptoms such as impaired judgment and memory loss that are severe enough to interfere with daily life. Over time, the affected person can experience personality and behavioural changes, as well as physical decline, which typically requires the help of an in-home dementia caregiver. Two of the most common causes of dementia are Alzheimer\u2019s and Lewy body dementia (LBD). Other causes of dementia include Huntington\u2019s disease, Parkinson\u2019s disease, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Alzheimer\u2019s disease is the most common cause of dementia, affecting more than 850 000 people in Britain. Typically, memory and judgement gradually decline over time due to degenerating and dying brain cells. Unless the individual has other diseases or illnesses, physical deterioration does not usually occur until the disease has significantly progressed and caused impairment in basic function and motor skills necessary to physical health.<\/p> <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n \n

Lewy body dementia is another common cause of progressive dementia. Initially, individuals may experience symptoms like Alzheimer\u2019s or Parkinson\u2019s, while others may have vivid visual hallucinations.
